About This Museum

岐阜県の山々に囲まれた高山市の、住宅街の奥に静かに佇む一軒家の民芸館です。桜の季節には、窓の外の桜枝が展示室内に淡いピンク色の影を落とします。室内には飛騨地方の木製器具、漆器、織物が、年代順ではなく『使われていた場所』という観点で配置されています。入口を入ると小さな土間があり、そこから一歩上がると板張りの部屋が広がります。床の板と板の間から、ほのかに土の香りが漂います。管理人の老夫婦は、毎朝9時にきれいに掃除をしてから、窓際の椅子に座って本を読んでいます。話しかけると、展示品の使い方や、誰が持っていたかを静かに話してくれます。入館料は400円で、玄関の竹かごに入れます。

A converted folk house tucked in the back of a residential neighbourhood in Takayama, surrounded by mountains. During cherry blossom season, pink shadows from the branches outside fall across the display room. Hida-region wooden utensils, lacquerware, and textiles are arranged not by era but by where they were used in daily life. A small dirt-floor entrance leads up one step into the wooden room. The faint scent of earth drifts between the floorboards. An elderly caretaker couple cleans every morning at 9, then sits by the window reading. If you speak to them, they will quietly tell you how each piece was used and who owned it. Admission is 400 yen, placed in the bamboo basket at the entrance.
