About This Museum

滋賀県長浜市、琵琶湖のほとりに建つ元漁師の家を改造した博物館です。漁具、綱、鉤、木造船の模型が、漁をしていた当時のままの配置で展示されています。七月の午後、南向きの窓から琵琶湖の水面の反射光が室内に差し込み、綱や木の道具に波模様が揺れます。床は漁師が使っていた板のままで、所々に釣り針の小さな傷が残っています。展示室の奥には、小さな縁側があり、そこに座ると琵琶湖が一望できます。管理人は元漁師の老人で、時々縁側でタバコを吸いながら湖を見ています。入館料400円は、縁側の入口にある竹筒に入れます。

A converted fisherman's house on the shore of Lake Biwa in Nagahama, Shiga. Fishing tools, ropes, hooks, and wooden boat models are displayed in their original fishing arrangement. On July afternoons, reflected light from the lake surface pours through the south-facing window, making wave patterns dance across the ropes and wooden implements. The floor is the original wood used by the fisherman, with tiny hook marks in places. At the back of the display room, a small veranda offers a full view of Lake Biwa. The caretaker is a former fisherman who sometimes sits on the veranda smoking and gazing at the lake. The 400-yen admission goes in a bamboo tube at the veranda entrance.
