About This Museum

新潟県南魚沼市、日本有数の米どころにある一軒家の米文化館です。室内には、稲作に関するあらゆる道具が展示され、天井からは金色の稲穂が吊るされています。十月の朝、東向きの窓から朝日が差し込み、稲穂が黄金色に輝きます。床は元々農家で使われていた板で、節穴が開いたまま残っています。そこから覗くと、下の土間が少し見えます。展示棚には、さまざまな年代の米びつが並び、手書きのラベルには『曾祖父の時代』『祖母が使っていた』などと書かれています。管理人は地域の農家のおばあさんで、時々新潟の米の話を静かにしてくれます。入館料400円。

A one-room rice culture museum in Minami-Uonuma, Niigata, one of Japan's finest rice-growing regions. Every tool related to rice farming is displayed, with golden rice sheaves hanging from the ceiling. On October mornings, eastern sunlight makes the sheaves glow golden. The floor is original farmhouse wood with knot holes left open; peering through, you can glimpse the dirt floor below. The display shelves hold rice bins from various eras with handwritten labels like 'From great-grandfather's time' and 'Grandmother used this'. The caretaker is a local farmer who sometimes shares quiet stories about Niigata rice. Admission is 400 yen.
