About This Museum

山形県尾花沢市の中心部から少し離れた、一軒家の収穫館です。室内の天井からは、毎年秋になると地域の人が持ってきた干し柿が吊るされます。その下には、稲作の道具、籠、箕が並んでいます。九月の夕方、西向きの窓から金色の光が差し込み、干し柿のオレンジ色が部屋全体に温かみを与えます。床は厚くて重い板で、歩くと低い音を立てます。管理人のおじいさんは、毎日午後3時に、展示の籠に入った古い米の種を、天日干しにするために縁側に出します。入館料300円は、入口の小さな桐箱に入れます。

A one-room harvest museum a short walk from central Obanazawa, Yamagata. Every autumn, dried persimmons brought by locals hang from the ceiling. Below, rice-farming tools, baskets, and winnowing sieves line the walls. In September evenings, golden light through the west-facing window warms the room, complementing the orange persimmons. The floor is thick, heavy planks that make a low sound when walked upon. An elderly male caretaker takes old rice seeds from a display basket out to the veranda for sun-drying at 3 p.m. every day. The 300-yen admission goes in a small paulownia box at the entrance.
