About This Museum

愛媛県東温市の住宅街に佇む一軒家の陶器館です。越智氏という陶工家が四代にわたって作り続けた陶器が、時代順に並んでいます。窓の外には大きな藤棚があり、五月になると紫色の花房が窓を飾ります。その光が陶器の釉薬に反射して、室内全体がうっすらと紫色に染まります。床はとても古くて柔らかく、履物を脱いで上がると、足の裏に板の感触が伝わります。展示棚は generations 作り続けたもので、一番古いものは100年以上前のものです。管理人は越智家の末娘さんで、時々作品の裏に書かれた銘を見ながら、誰がこの器を使っていたかを話してくれます。入館料は400円。現金のみです。

A pottery house museum in a residential neighbourhood of Toon, Ehime. Pottery created over four generations by the Ochi family lines the shelves in chronological order. Outside the window, a large wisteria trellis fills with purple blossoms in May. The light reflects off the pottery glazes, tinting the entire room a soft violet. The floor is very old and soft; when you remove your shoes and step up, the texture of the planks reaches the soles of your feet. The display shelves were built by generations of the family; the oldest is over 100 years old. The caretaker is the youngest daughter of the Ochi family, who sometimes tells stories of who used each piece while examining the inscriptions on the bottom. Admission is 400 yen, cash only.
