About This Museum

高知県香南市の山あいにある、元農家の二部屋の博物館です。土間の入り口から上がると、板張りの部屋に古い農具、竹製の籠、藁で編んだ道具が展示されています。八月の夏、開け放たれた戸口から山の緑と強い光が室内に入ってきます。土間には昔使っていた水瓮があり、雨の日には天井から雫が落ちるそうです。板張りの部屋は涼しく、床の間には季節の草花が生けてあります。管理人の老夫婦は、毎朝7時に来て、縁側で茶を飲みながら開館の準備をします。入館料300円は、土間の甕の中に入れます。

A two-room farmhouse museum in the mountains of Konan, Kochi. Step up from the dirt-floor entrance into a wooden room displaying old farm tools, bamboo baskets, and straw-woven implements. In August, mountain greenery and strong light flood through the open doorway. A water urn sits in the dirt floor; on rainy days, drops fall from the ceiling, they say. The wooden room stays cool, with seasonal wildflowers in the alcove. An elderly caretaker couple arrives at 7 every morning to prepare for opening, drinking tea on the veranda. The 300-yen admission goes in an urn in the dirt-floor area.
